A 'globalised' sport is a sport that has broad popularity across the globe. There may be many professional leagues for this sport across the globe and one would expect an average global citizen to be passively aware of the sport, how it's played, and some of its stars. Examples include soccer, basketball, and running.

By contrast, a 'localised' sport is a sport that is primarily popular in one or a small handful of countries. Even if someone from another country is aware of the sport, they are unlikely to know many specific details. Examples include sumo, AFL, and kabaddi.

An affirmative legal defense is a legal strategy in which the defendant admits to committing the act in question, but argues that they should not be held legally liable because of a justifying or excusing circumstance. Examples of affirmative defenses include self-defense (“Yes, I hit them — but only to protect myself.”), necessity (“I broke into the cabin because I would have frozen to death.”), and duress (“I committed the crime because I was threatened with violence.”).
